This week you get to go on a Pioneer Trek preparation hike!
Keep doing your cardio workout during this week (started last week). Don't give up on that program!
For this week you should plan to go on a long, extended hike (4-5 miles) See if you can get a group of your fellow pioneer trekkers to go with you.
In preparation for the hike, remember that it is very important that you give yourself adequate energy and water before and during the hike. Have a snack and a large glass of water before you leave your house. Hydration needs to start early – at least 30 minutes before you start exercising. Bring water with you. You should plan on at least 8 oz for every mile, so for our 4 mile hike you should have 32 ounces with you. As a general rule, when working out for more than an hour, it is a good idea to have some form of energy for your body. By this I mean Gatorade (it has some sugar), or even better – trail mix or something with protein and carbohydrates to keep you going.
I'll be out hiking this weekend...maybe I'll be lucky enough to run into some of you out on the trail!
Good luck. If you have any questions or concerns about fitness, please feel free to email me at anthopete@gmail.com . Thanks!
